'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Cureton urges Iwelumo: re-sign

Monday`s Evening Gazette carried a great piece of news of all Colchester United fans; Official Player of the Year Jamie Cureton declared his intention to stay in Britain`s oldest recorded town following his Golden Boot scoring spree of 23 goals in this year`s Championship.

"I`ve got another year on my contract and I`ve enjoyed my football this season," said the 31-year old, effectively ending speculation that he will re-join old club Southampton, even if they are not promoted to the Premiership via the play-off route.

He also urged partner Chris Iwelumo, who is out of contract at the end of the season, to stay: "It`s up to the club to keep Chris.

"If he doesn`t get what he wants then he'll leave and that`s part and parcel of the game."

"He wants to stay but will consider other options and what's right for him."

"It's a shame we're still talking about it but things need to be discussed and Chris has scored a lot of goals for us this season," added Cureton.

Yes; but it sounds like Iwelumo thinks his talent deserves higher wages. By that you should read that Duduid, the skipper, gets max 10 k p/w. But Big Chris probably does deserve more; we simply can't afford that much. Hogan Ephraim; it's the same with him - the wage demands, if not the transfer fee itself wouldbe too high.
