U's Keen On Gutteridge?

With speculation rife that Southend United`s highly rated Luke Gutteridge could defect to rivals Colchester United, manager Geraint Williams was quoted last week as saying he won`t "rule out a move" for the 5`5 midfielder.

The former Cambridge player scored just one goal this season as the Shrimpers suffered a Championship relegation after just one term this season. At one point, in 2004, the winger attracted reported interest from West Ham, Charlton, Derby and Crystal Palace, among others.

Should Colchester bid for, and sign, the player who put pen to paper on a new one-year deal last summer, then he would not be the first player to switch between the U`s and Blues. Jamal Campbell Ryce and Efe Sodje, who both had loan spells with Colchester in recent years before joining Southend.
