'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Williams On Striker Prowl

Colchester United`s manager Geraint Williams has assured disconsolate fans that he will do his best to replace Chris Iwelumo as quickly as possible, now that Jamie Cureton and Jamie Guy are the only recognised first-team forwards.

However, United fans are also excited by the prospect of the club`s prolific youth system offering 16-year-old Medi Elito, dubbed by the press as "the next LuaLua", getting a chance in Essex after he reportedly rejected the chance to join Manchester United.

On losing Iwelumo, Williams said on the official website: "Obviously, we are disappointed to lose Chris.

Over the past couple of years he has done a great job for us and we'll miss him,' said Williams.

'However, he's at the end of his contract and with Charlton's resources of 25,000 crowds and parachute money from the Premiership, there is no way we can compete financially in this instance.

'As always in football, players come and go. Chris leaves a big hole, but it's one we're looking to fill and we are determined to do so.'

Regardless of what many think I dont see ther being any rush to be honest and would love to see Jamie Guy getting his chance, I like his directness.

I agree Deeno 100%. Jamie Guy is a top top man. I saw him in Colchester last weekend and he was great friends with Hogan Ephraim, who I believe should re-sign if we can get him. They both took time out to speak to me and give signatures and stuff during Southampton away, was great!
