Doogie: Good Luck 'Lumo'

Colchester United skipper Karl Duguid has wished his now departed team-mate Chris Iwelumo well in the wake of an interview the 28-year-old Charlton Athletic signing gave on BBC Essex last week.

On the radio Iwelumo, who scored 18 goals last season, seemed to intimate that the U`s needed to be more competitive when trying to hold onto their star players, alluding also that Richard Garcia, the other out-of-contract star, has only been offered a one-year contract extension on his deal, which expires this summer.

Yet Duguid, speaking on the club`s official website, has only praise for the former front man: "It was disappointing that he left us because he scored a lot of goals in the last two years and has been a big part of the squad.

"His contract was up," added Duguid, who is the U`s longest serving player, having been at Colchester since he was a trainee. "At the end of the day, he let it run out and took his choice."
