Col U's Gerken: Future Never A Doubt

Dean Gerken has told the local media that there was never a doubt that his future would be at Layer Road next season and beyond after he penned a new deal over the weekend.

The 22-year-old, a youth graduate of the club`s academy stated in an article with the Colchester Evening Gazette that he "wanted to repay the faith" the club had shown him last term as he finally displaced Aden Davison as number one goalkeeper.

Gerken told the Gazette: "I always wanted to sign again for Colchester.

"I`m getting first-team football and I have a massive respect for the gaffer," he said.

Gerken, who is touted by many to grace the international stage with England one day, said he was happy to sort the issue before the new season commenced.

He added: "I`m looking forward to the future."

Good to see he has signed, he is one of our most valuable assets. Wonder how long the contract is?
