Col U: No To Agents!
Amid furious investigation into corruption in football by The Quest team, and now the City of London Police investigation, it is pleasing to report that Championship side Colchester United take a healthy line when it comes to agents.
The U’s, as reported in recent weeks by the Daily Mail, were unique in the sense that no middle men received any form of payment for any transfer that took place during the past season, 2005-6. The club bought and sold a number of players during that period, but maintain a healthy pride in their policy not to deal through third parties.
While former England manager Graham Taylor once infamously claimed that agents “should be lined up against a wall and shot,” Colchester United’s method seems somewhat safer and viable.
