Cousins Should Have Listened To Ted

Colchester United’s reserve keeper Mark Cousins admitted he could have saved Brain Howard’s second and equalising penalty against Barnsley on Saturday – if only he had taken the advice of evergreen pro Teddy Sheringham.

The 20-year-old failed to save either of the harsh awards when both were converted by Howard in a 2-2 draw, but Cousins told the press afterwards: “Ted is always giving advice. Before the second penalty he told me it would go the same way [ as the first] but I went the wrong way. I should have taken his word.”

In the EADT Cousins also admitted that he had not expected to be in action during the game, but was thrust into play after first-choice Dean Gerken received a red card with about half of the first period elapsed.

“My parents didn’t come and watch, because I didn’t think I’d get on the pitch,” added Cousins. “They are probably regretting it now.”
