Col Utd Won’t Count Cup Exit Cost

Colchester United will not suffer financially as a direct result of last week’s disappointing Carling Cup exit against Shrewsbury Town exit according to the club’s manager.

“The club is very prudent in the way it budgets for a season. What we would say is that a great cup run would be a bonus; hopefully we can get one in the FA Cup,” said Geriant Williams in the Essex County Standard.

“It was a big disappointment,” he added after United tumbled out of the competition by a single goal against Shrewsbury Town.

“There is a slight inconsistency that we scored in the Championship and nothing in the Cup. You can say we are concentrating on the form and it is the priority to get enough points, but we don’t like losing.”

Most U’s fans have now dismissed the lacklustre cup performance in Shropshire after the controversial draw against Barnsley last weekend. “We went to Shrewsbury with the intention of winning,” added Williams. “You have to put the disappointment behind you, don’t dwell on it.”
