Williams: Translate Teamwork To Goal
Colchester United manager Geriant Williams wants his team to translate their renowned teamwork skill into a flurry of goals from everyone across the entire squad.
The call comes as Williams wants the club’s nine summer additions to step up to the challenge of filling the boots of former marksmen the prolific Jamie Cureton and Chris Iwelumo. He is keen to avoid an unhealthy over-reliance on those in the forward positions in 2007/08.
“We will have to work hard on scoring goals, as we scored 70 goals last year. We need more goals form all over the park this year,” Williams told the Essex County Standard. “We need defenders to be more of a threat at set pieces,” he added.
Williams is unwilling to place too heavy a burden on those whose job description reads goal-poacher: “You can’t guarantee you are going to your strikers on the pitch or that they will get goals. It stands to reason that they will have to be spread around the team.”
