Lampard Best I've Faced: Duguid

Colchester United skipper Karl Duguid has admitted that Chelsea’s Frank Lampard & Joe Cole are among the top three best players he has ever faced during 15 years at the club.

Duguid last night’s England scorer Lampard as “excellent” and made the admission in last weekend’s matcday magazine when he reached the 350th league game in Colchester colours against Barnsley.

Duguid has now made 402 appearances for the U’s since his debut against Hereford in 1994. He said: “Frank Lampard and Joe Cole were excellent when we played Chelsea in the FA Cup. They came on at half-time and turned the game in their favour in the second half, and, of course, Joe scored two.”

Duguid’s other choice was a lesser-known figure in the modern game: Richard Sneekers when he was at West Brom; he was impressive against us in the Carling Cup.”

The club captain conceded that he is delighted to have turned out so many names for the club, even if it is now not in the wing position where he made his name during the first decade of his stay. Now used at right back by Geriant Williams on most weeks, Duguid said he’s got his eye on a certain record held by one Mickey Cook.

“I think 400 games is pretty good considering I missed a season and a half, but now I just want more because every time I see Mickey Cook, he always tells me he has played more!”
