Evergreen Colchester United professional Teddy Sheringham admitted he is enjoying life hugely in Essex following Saturday’s away win where he grabbed his second U’s goal in just over seven days.
The 41-year-old former England man felt he should have been awarded a penalty in the first half after a foul by Preston’s Youl Mawene, but told the EADT yesterday that scoring later in the 3-0 win made amends.
Having netted from the spot in the second half, Teddy admitted that the opening three games had gone well, describing his first games in Essex as a “fantastic start” to Layer Road life.
The U’s, of course, remain undefeated so far: “It might have looked easy for us, but we worked hard,” he said. In the weekend’s win, he also reserved praise for stand-in stopper, Aidan Davison.
“Aidan was superb. He came out for about 20 crosses, so you’d expect him to drop one or two. He really helped the back four, and he’s nearly ad old as me!”
Sheringham added: “It’s been a fantastic start. Touch wood, I’m feeling fit. Playing from Saturday to Saturday is OK.”
