Partnerships Blooming - Williams

Colchester United manager Geriant Williams has congratulated his new-look squad for proving that there’s life after last season, following a comprehensive victory over Preston on Saturday.

Some predicted the U’s would struggle and fall victim of a so-called second season syndrome due to a large exodus of playing staff directly after their highest league finish of all time in the Championship last term.

But, with Colchester yet lose this time around, things are looking up: “It’s well documented that we lost of top three goalscorers from last season, but we’re still scoring a lot of goals”, said Williams in yesterday’s EADT.

He continued: “Partnerships are blossoming all over the pitch and Aidan Davison showed terrific character to come in and play so well. Even when he dropped the ball, Aidan stood up to the pressure.”

Williams went on to highlight the team’s effort in pulling together for the side’s first win of the 2006/7 campaign. “I love to see defenders throwing themselves at the ball, blocking shots, even when you’re 3-0 up – they just didn’t want to concede.”

“It was a terrific victory and a very professional display,” concluded Williams.
