While an optimum soundtrack for Colchester United’s crunch clash in the Championship with Charlton could be I Predict A Riot, the club’s captain, Karl Duguid, has instead forecast that a rebound is on the agenda.
The return of two one-time cult heroes, striker Chris Iwelumo and former manager Phil Parkinson, Duguid hopes, will see his side return to winning ways after a narrow first defeat of the campaign against Burnley.
Although Duguid conceded that his XI probably “didn’t deserve to win,” the 29-year-old does not think his rallying cry represents a case of shutting the gate after the horse has bolted. He told the Evening Gazette this week: “I don’t think we were at our best but we still created a few chances.”
The game was notable for Adam Virgo’s first goal during his loan spell, set to be six months from Scottish champions, Celtic, as well as a trademark U’s fight-back, of typical tenacity and endeavour, that saw the match end 3-2.
Duguid admitted: “I think they [Burnley] would have been gutted if we had got something out of it. Last season we had games that gave us a reality check and this is probably another one of them this season. We’ll still look forward to playing Charlton.'
