Sky Claim Elokobi Interest

Sky Sports News are today reporting that Colchester United full-back George Elokobi will enter in to negotiations over a new contract after apparently attracting interest from several big-name sides.

The 21-year-old, who joined the U`s youth ranks in 2004, has impressed with his early season form and, as such, is thought to have caught the attentions of Southampton and Celtic, among others.

While Sky Sports do not name these clubs, talk earlier in the season, via the BBC gossip column, did sight them both as possible contenders for his signature, should a bidding-war begin.

The speculation over his long-term future in Britain`s oldest town has been re-ignited because he has a known desire to pull on the shirt internationally for his native Cameroon.

On Monday, via the Colchester Evening Gazette, stopper Elokobi explained he had a desire to emulate fellow countryman Geremi by being a big hit for his country.

Claims that Elokobi will leave the club in the near future have been refuted in the last 24 hours by manager Geriant Williams as just "pure speculation."

Hope he doesn't go and the lure of more money doesn't gets the better of him.

He's a left-back and a very good, passionate, strong, young player.

Perhaps a little raw, but he'll be a class act.
