Spurs Legend Sheringham Backs Jol

Tottenham Hotspur may go in to tonight`s game against Newcastle in the Premiership`s bottom three, but their under-fire manager Martin Jol has received backing from an unlikely source - Colchester United`s Teddy Sheringham.

The former Tottenham legend, 41, who had two spells with the London club, from 1992 -1997 & from 2001 - 2003, says that the progression his former London club have made since the Dutchman`s appointment cannot be allowed to count against him now that the pressure is on.

"From what I am told, the fans are enjoying what Martin Jol has produced," said Sheringham on fan site Tribal Football.

"The majority want him to stay."

Evergreen Sheringham, still going strong at Layer Road since his summer move from West Ham, added: "He has spent a lot of money but you can also see an improvement. And if you see that, that can only be a good thing. They seem to have got better every year so why change it?"

"He seems to be building something. Yes, they had a terrible start; obviously they are not happy in the bottom four. But it still seems to me there has been progress under Martin."

Agree with Teddy on this one, give him time, he's worked wonders.
