Yeates Inconsolable After Ipswich

Mark Yeates was "inconsolable" after his recent penalty miss against Ipswich, according to Colchester United skipper Karl Duguid.

The revelation, made in the Duguid`s latest internet dairy entry on his personal website, gives those outside the club an insight in to just how low spirits are at the moment.

While Colchester are not in the relegation zone, their patchy form this week lead manager Geraint Williams to declare himself "sick" with making excuses for dropping points.

Duguid echoed via his entry: "The players knew how much a win at Portman Road would have meant to the fans and we seemed to be casting to a famous victory when, from what should have been a clinching situation, we were suddenly losing.

"I watched from the dugout and could not believe what was happening," he continues. The 29-year-old, who scored in both derby matches with Ipswich last term, was ruled out with an ankle injury.

His return to the fold against Coventry, where he was voted man of a very dismal match, saw the U`s fare little better.

A late goal at the Rioch denied Colchester any points last weekend, and Duguid reflects: "There could not have been a better time to face the Sky Blues, yet it must have been a terrible game to watch for the several hundred that travelled.

"I was pleased to be back in the side and get 90 minutes under my belt but I must admit that the last ten minutes was very tiring."
