Elokobi Dropped Over Interest?

Colchester United boss Geraint Williams has fuelled speculation that left-back George Elokobi may be a winter target of Celtic and Reading by dropping him for tonight`s game against Leicester.

The promising 20-year-old has lost his place tonight because of a combination of the good form of Danny Granville, who moves to left back to accommodate Kevin Watson`s return, and the press speculation over his future.

"George has been doing OK for us this season, but there has been no contact from any club concerning him," insisted Williams in yesterday`s edition of the East Anglian Daily Times.

The article went on to suggest that a number of scouts may arrive for tonight`s game on Sky to take a look at Elokobi, which may have influenced Williams` decision to drop a payer he clearly wants to keep at the club.

Word is that Elokobi`s future in Essex hinges on that of Reading`s Nicky Shorey, whom he could replace if West Ham lure the England international to Upton Park in January.
