Boss: Elokobi Switch Tactical

Colchester United boss Geraint Williams has explained that the omission of George Elokobi from the first team for the first time this season was tactical and nothing else.

The 20-year-old left-back missed out on a start for the first time in thirteen games this season to accommodate Kevin Watson and Kevin McLeod without dropping the previously in-form Danny Granville, according to his manager.

There had been speculation that Cameroonian Elokobi was dropped because of the talk that he may be a target of Premiership Reading and also Glasgow Celtic - both clubs were reportedly sending scouts to Layer Road to asses his performance.

However, Williams explained post-match on BBC Radio Essex: "To be fair to George, it was hard to leave him out but there are people pushing for places.

" I felt I wanted Kevin (McLeod) to come in and to have a look at Danny at left-back, mainly because I felt that Leicester had three in midfield, we would get out balls to the full-backs."

He added: "It was for tonight. We`ll have a look as time goes on," presumably with Tuesday`s match against Plymouth in mind.

That means he's off. Aother one leaving Layer Road?
will it ever happen
I don't thinks so, actually. This website, among others, is picked up by the media and I would not be suprised if the EADT article, whcih only speculated that scouts where at Layer Road, looked on here for info. The manager has denied it, which is fine - he's not the finished article yet anyway! And besides, I think leaving him out when the Sky cameras were there in the last game was a good idea to ward off scouts - plus Granville has been doing well. :)
