Now if I have a job to do, I try and do it to the best of my potential. If I don't achieve what I set out to do I'd hold my hands up, say 'I wasn't good enough', and let someone else have a go. That's not giving up or walking away from the issue, that's admitting you're not up to the job.
What I wouldn't do is say to the press, 'It was my responsibility to get us [England] qualified but we haven't. We have let the fans down.' and then refuse to resign because I'm waiting for the pay-off - and this is an Englishman! It's a disgrace, as was the performance and tactics last night. So he gets sacked and El Tel goes with him.
It should be the easiest job in the world. 'Have a million pounds a year and organise and motivate a bunch of talented footballers to win games FOR THEIR COUNTRY.' You'd expect them to be queuing round the block at Soho Square. Does the passion and patriotism of being English make a good manager or should look for a foreign manager again as clearly they seem to be doing a better job of qualifying?
William Hill were forced to slash their odds for Jose Mourinho to become the next permanent England manager after an overnight gamble.
PR man Graham Sharpe said, 'Jose was the only man anyone wanted to back after the match, and overnight and into Thursday over 80% of the bets we've taken have been for the former Chelsea boss'.
Hills have Mourinho at 4/1 to get the job - having quoted him at 10/1 when he left Chelsea and 11/2 prior to the England-Croatia match.
Interest for Martin O'Neill has been very strong this morning though as he's now favourite at 11/4 having been 5/1 earlier. Hill's also offer 7/1 Phil Scolari; 10/1 Guus Hiddink; 11/1 Fabio Capello; 12/1 Harry Redknapp; 12/1 Alan Shearer; 16/1 Stuart Pearce; 16/1 Allardyce; 16/1 Klinsmann; 20/1 Steve Coppell 20/1 Lippi; 20/1 Curbishley; 25/1 Wenger; 33/1 Jewell; 40/1 Steve Bruce.

With facts, rumours and opinion merging into one on occasions like this it's hard to know who to back? What do you think? Should England be managed by an Englishman or just the best man for the job? And who is the best man for the job!?
