U`s Man Teddy: Wenger For England

Colchester United`s former England hero Teddy Sheringham feels Arsene Wenger is the best candidate to fill the void left by Steve McClaren.

Sheringham, who recently received an MBE for his services to football, won 51 caps for England scoring 11 goals in a nine-year period has told Colchester's local newspaper that Wenger should be the nation's next boss.

McClaren was sacked on Thursday morning following England`s failure to qualify for Euro 2008 after the 3-2 defeat to Croatia at Wembley.

Evergreen Sheringham, who made his last appearance in an England shirt back in 2002, feels the Football Association should persuade Arsenal`s Frenchman Arsene Wenger to move into international management.

Sheringham told The Evening Gazette: "My choice would be to get Arsene Wenger in.

I think it`s the right way forward and I would pay him everything he wanted.

"He`s done a fantastic job at Arsenal. The way they play is second to none."

The U`s front man also admitted he was devastated for McClaren, with whom he worked at Manchester United.

Sheringham also stated his belief that the former Middlesbrough boss to bounce back in to management before too long.

"He`ll bounce back; I`m sure he is as devastated as we all are.

"It`s a job for an experienced man and now we defiantly need to find the right man for the job."

I would like to see "The Special One" be England manager...

I think everyone would, but he's ruled himself out!

Im as sure that Wenger would be a good target for England as i am sure that Lionel Messi would be a good target for Yeovil Town. Get real Teddy!

Good point well made! One man cannot sort out the England mess, just as one man cannot win a team a match. Wenger has turned the Engand job down before, I think, in 2000. You've got to be a fool, or short of a few bob, to want The Impossible Job!
