Williams: No Second-Season Syndrome

Geraint Williams was quick to dismiss any suggestions that struggling Colchester United were suffering from a bout of the deadly "second-season syndrome".

The U`s, who have not won since mid-October, worked wonders last year, in their maiden Championship season, finishing in a record 10th place.

In the summer months Colchester lost half-a-dozen first-choice players as many stated that the club "lacked ambition".

However, things have been different this season for the Layer Road side, having recorded only three league victories since the opening day George Williams` men hang dangerously in 20th place.

Following there 1-0 defeat to Wolves on Wednesday, the U`s boss told Sky Sports News, "From the team we had last year, six players have moved on - one in the Premier League and five in this division - so there are only four that started in the side last year.

"It can`t be second-season syndrome - because for a lot of these lads, it`s their first season at the club."

So have the U`s contracted the deadly "second-season syndrome"?

Or are they just on a poor run of form?
