Scoreline Flatters Colchester

Colchester United were dumped out of the FA this afternoon after being convincingly beaten by an impressive Peterborough United.

Posh came to Layer Road having never been beaten by the U's in this competition and they were not going to allow their hosts to break that tradition.

Indeed the visitors were well on their way as early as the 4th Minute when Mclean met a corner to out jump the Colchester defence.

Any neutral at the game could be forgiven for thinking thank the Posh were the Championship side and Colchester from League Two such was the gulf between the two teams.

The Posh were completely controlling the game and should of been two up soon after when Mclean rose again only to see his header cannon off the post with Gerkhen stranded on his line after great inter play down the right wing.

Colchester were soon level as Lisbie was fouled in the Posh Penalty Area, and with 41 year old former England Striker Teddy Sheringham placing the ball high to Tylers left, Colchester entered the break level.

The second half started as the first had, and soon the ball was again in the back of the Colchester net after good work down the right saw the ball come across after the hard worked Colchester defence had numerous chances to clear it, and with a great shot from the left apex Peterborough were soon in front again.

Colchester had no answer for their visitors intent, Posh were the better side first to everything and closing every attacking Colchester effort down, indeed the Colchester Management and Players would do well to watch the video because this was indeed a lesson in football!

Posh extended their lead which they deserved on 72 minutes when Charlie Lee headed in at the near post from a corner unchallenged

Although Yeates came close with a freekick later on Colchester had no answer for their regional rivals and should be thankful that they were only beaten 1-3 because the truth is it could have and should have been more!

Another disappointing home game and the second season running that Colchester have been dumped out of the FA Cup by League 2 opposition!
