'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Adams Backing U`s Despite His Exit

Micky Adams, now a former assistant manager at Colchester United after his departure this week, has expressed his belief that the club will stay in the Championship this season.

Adams wants to return to manage his own team once more, having had notable success with Brighton and Coventry in the past, but assured U`s fans that the side he is leaving can avoid relegation.

That has to be the main aim this term, given their current league position of second from bottom, and Adams said in the Colchester Gazette: "We got a fantastic result at Charlton on New Year's Day and that gave everyone a boost.

"We couldn't continue that against Peterborough but I know that George (Geraint) and the chairman are trying very hard to bring new players into the football club," said Adams.

Adams, 46, went on to praise the rookie boss and dugout companion.

He added: 'I have a lot more experience as a manager than George and he's still a young manager - he needs as much experience alongside him as possible.

"I'm sure that Colchester will survive with him in charge.'
