Ex-U's Man Burley To Manage Scots?

George Burley, well known in East Anglia for his exploits with Colchester & Ipswich as both a player and manager, is today expected to leave Southampton to take charge of the Scottish national team.

Burley has also managed Derby County and Hearts but is the most attainable target for the SFA, who need a new man at the helm following the departure of Alex McLeish to Birmingham in November.

Burley`s spell with Southampton has been average, because the team were expected to push for a return to the Premier League, although the south coast club have had financial restraint to contend with following the lapse of the persecute payments granted to them initially after relegation.

The Press Association have been issuing stories all morning that Burley will be appointment by the end of today, while the East Anglian Daily Times this morning commented that Southampton had received an approach for the former U`s boss.

Burley was a right-back in his playing days and began as a trainee with Ipswich Town in 1973 and went on to manage Colchester for six months in a player-coach role in 1994 before sensationally leaving to begin his tenure with the Tractor Boys.
