'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fox Trot A Geography Lesson

The decision by Walsall`s Daniel Fox to join Coventry instead Colchester of was not down to a failure of personal terms, but a question of Geography, the club have revealed.

The 21-year-old former Everton man considered the contract on offer from Colchester for over a week, but eventually chose to join Championship rivals City rather than head south.

The U`s Chief Executive Marie Partner explained that the player was all set to agree with the finer print of the deal - good news given fears that Colchester are often found wanting in the transfer market for not being competitive - but that distance proved a snag.

"What you've got to remember is that you're talking to a player, particularly when he's only 21-years of age, and he obviously lives at home with his family," said Partner this week.

"It's taken you weeks to negotiate with the club in the first place for them to then give you permission to speak to the player, and having met him a couple of times we in fact agreed contract terms and he was more than happy with what we had to offer.

Partner added: "What he needed to go away with and think to himself was whether he was prepared to relocate, so it was the geography that played a massive part in it."

Meanwhile, it seems the Sky Blues will now also try to sign another Colchester target, in Brighton skipper Daen Hammond.
