'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Layer Road On Market

As work on Colchester`s new Community Stadium continues, the town council have confirmed that the U`s current Layer Road ground is set to be put on the market.

The club`s 70-year-old home will not remain a footballing shrine in Britain`s oldest recorded town and instead is being offered as an attractive development area for investors.

'Pre-marketing work is being carried out with a view to putting the Layer Road site on the market in the early spring,' a spokesman told the Us official website this week.

'The council envisage a residential community with a range of houses and flats built around a central square.

'The timing is being carefully planned so that the football club are not required to move from the existing ground until the new stadium is ready.'

Club Chief Executive Marie Partner has since confirmed that the new stadium is running to schedule and should be completed in time for the start of next season.
