Stadium Capacity Could Top 17,000

Fears that Colchester United`s thirty-year wait for a new stadium would be in vein due to a stunningly small capacity of 10,000 seats have been allayed by the club, who reveled this month that it could reach a high of 17,000.

Chief Executive Marie Partner has stated that initial research was done to ensure expansion could be made, and the club have also since revealed that former club chairman Peter Herd will be remember for his efforts on the board, possibly with the naming of a stand after him.

Partner explained to the Colchester Evening Gazette recently: "Mr Heard has played a huge part in where we are today.

'He has left a legacy in ensuring that the club is run in an efficient way and I hope that Robbie Cowling will carry on that legacy."
