AND ACTION! This tie against Yeovil Town is take two of three for the U`s, as they host a trio of early home matches inside a week at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, including Tuesday`s League Cup loss against Leyton Orient.
By the recognition of both captain Dean Hammond and U`s manager Paul Lambert this week, the U`s need to up-the-ante this season in Essex if they are to stand any chance of winning promotion back to the Championship.
During the summer, the club decreased both pitch-size and altered the away dressing-room, painting it a dark brown colour, in order to intimidate opposing teams. The squad also requested that fans be given help to buy some racket-making instruments, to keep them in full voice this season at the year-old ground.
Now it`s down to the players to put the midweek false-start behind them and go for a crowd-pleasing two wins as many league games.
With not much form to go on, all that remains is for Vital to urge you to stand up, get tense and roar your heart out for the team today! Spend Saturday afternoon sitting back and relaxing? No chance!
Hammond Hopeful On Home Form :-
The U`s skipper tells Dream 100 FM: "The home form is very important to us because we want to entertain our own supporters. We`ll work on it and have talked about it a lot. It`s our home stadium, no matter what size pitch you play on. It`s down to us to go out and win games."
Skiverton Looks For Norwich Bounce-back:-
The Glovers` boss tells the Somerset County Gazette: "It will be a hard game, and another hard game, but we're looking forward to it and we're looking forward to the challenge."
Boss Lambert confirmed yesterday that the in-form stiker Scott Vernon will start alongside Kevin Lisbie today. Clive Platt starts a three-game ban and Jamie Guy has all-but said his days at the club are over.
The U's are also missing crocked pair Steven Gillespie (hamstring) and defender, Paul Reid, (knee) in mid-term layoffs.
United are set to recall four other players, following changes during the midweek League Cup fixture, including Ben Williams in goal and free-kick scoring David Fox
A sharp passer, Fox has already been compared to his former Manchester United compatriot, Paul Scholes but his new manager.
Fox has been working on his free-kick technique with Hammond to good impact, having scored one in last weekend's 7-1 goal-blitz against Norwich City.
Fox, a free transfer signing from Championship Blackpool, could become a key player in the middle of the U's this season.
Dean Bowditch, who was sure to take a booing for his former Ipswich Town connections, is now missing long-term for the Glovers as he needs an op on a dislocated shoulder.
Fellow attacking threat, Ryan Mason, is the only other doubt for the visitors and a late fitness test awaits.
Are you superstitious? If so, you`ll be thinking that the curse of the ex-player might strike where Williams is concerned.
Had a quiet spell at Colchester last season, on loan from Aston Villa, but opened his account for the campaign last weekend. Beware, the U`s backline - a promising talent returns.
