Colchester United are still looking for their first win at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, as Leicester City won 1-0 last night.
The U's, currently without a manager, struggled throughout as their poor start to the season continued. Caretaker-manager Kit Symons failed to carry on from Friday night's win at Tranmere Rovers. The Foxes' victory sent Nigel Pearson's men to the League One summit.
Symons fielded the same XI which left Prenton Park with three points, playing a 4-5-1 formation.
The away side started brightly, with Matty Fryatt sending a header wide of Dean Gerken's post. Shortly later, Gerken produced a fine save from Fryatt's driven effort.
Clive Platt came close to converting a Mark Yeates cross just after the half-hour mark, as the U's threatened.
Foxes' target-man Steve Howard was denied an opener, as he was denied by an offside decision.
Not long into the second-half, Lloyd Dyer broke down the visitors left and fired a fierce shot past Gerken to put the Foxes in front.
Howard came close to the away side's second but Gerken made a top-class save to deny the ex-Derby County man.
The closest the U's came to a goal was through Yeates' blistering free-kick, which crashed onto the underside of the cross-bar with the 'keeper well beaten.
U's full-back John White fired a low effort wide of goal in the closing stages but the Foxes held on.
