2007 - U's Visit Portman Road
Backed by thousands of away fans who had made the short trip up the A12, the U's made the trip in the unexpected position of being favourites for the game, occupying the final play-off position in the Championship with just eighteen games of the season to go whilst Ipswich languished in mid-table.
Buoyed by memories of Karl Duguid's winner at Layer Road in front of the Sky cameras in September, it was Doogie who again opened the scoring at Portman Road in controversial circumstances.
With a quarter of an hour on the clock, the hosts felt they should have taken the lead as Garry Richards hooked the ball away for the U's with it appearing to have gone beyond the line. The U's continued to play to the whistle though, and as the ball made it to Chris Iwelumo, he fired the ball across goal for Duguid to nestle into the net.
Richards wasn't to escape a second time though and, just fifteen minutes later, he brought down Alan Lee in the box who duly dusted himself down to bring the scores level from the spot.
Into the second half and the scores were reversed when Sylvain Legwinski headed Ipswich into the lead, forcing Geraint Williams into making changes with Jamie Guy and Johnnie Jackson replacing Hogan Ephraim and Kem Izzet.
However, just five minutes after Jackson's arrival on the pitch the game was all but won. Danny Haynes raced behind the U's defence to put himself in one-on-one with Dean Gerken, before coolly burying the ball from just inside the penalty area.
It was heartbreaking for the travelling supporters who had dreamed of three points in Town's own back yard as Duguid opened the scoring and, although Chris Iwelumo buried an injury time penalty, it was too late to prove a meaningful contribution.
Alan Lee failed to make many friends at the final whistle as he ran over to taunt and goad the away fans, and the travelling army made their way back down the A12 wondering what might have been.
